Your Guide to Your First NADAC Video Trial at Ace’n Agility
Your first NADAC Video Trial (VT) should be exciting—not overwhelming.
If you’ve been thinking about entering a VT but aren’t sure where to begin, the Ace VT Buddy Program is designed just for you.
An Ace VT Buddy is an experienced NADAC exhibitor who volunteers to help new competitors understand both the sport of NADAC and the unique process of Video Trials. Whether you’re entering your very first run or trying to understand how titles work, your Ace VT Buddy is there to answer questions and help you enjoy the experience.
The goal isn’t to coach your run—it’s to make sure you feel prepared, confident, and supported every step of the way.
Your Ace VT Buddy Can Help You With…
Before Your First VT
Getting started can be the hardest part. Your Ace VT Buddy can help answer questions such as:
- How do I register with NADAC?
- Where can I find the NADAC Rulebook?
- Should my dog compete in Proficient or Skilled?
- How do I determine my dog’s jump height?
- What classes should I enter first?
- What should I bring to a Video Trial?
- What can I expect at the VT?
During Your VT at Ace’n Agility
Your Ace VT Buddy will help you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive.
They can assist with:
- Understanding the running order
- Course maps and walk-throughs
- Ring etiquette
- NADAC Categories
- Proficient vs Skilled
- Answering questions throughout the event
- Celebrating your accomplishments and helping you learn from every experience
Understanding the Video Trial Process
Many first-time exhibitors have questions about how NADAC Video Trials actually work. Your Ace VT Buddy can explain:
- How the video recording process works
- What makes a run eligible to be judged
- How and when videos are submitted to NADAC
- When and how results are posted
Understanding NADAC Titles
One of the biggest questions new exhibitors have is, “What happens after I earn my first Q?”
Your Ace VT Buddy can help explain:
- How qualifying scores (Qs) are earned
- How points and qualifying runs work
- How many Qs and points are required for each level
- How titles are earned
- When your dog moves up to the next level
- How to track your dog’s points and titles
- Planning your trial journey from Intro through Elite
What an Ace VT Buddy Is Not
An Ace VT Buddy is there to support and encourage you—but they are not:
- Your trainer
- Your coach during a run
- A substitute handler
- A trial official
- A judge or steward
- Someone who provides coaching that isn’t permitted under NADAC rules
Instead, they’re a knowledgeable friend who remembers exactly what it was like to attend a first trial.
